There are many sites of scientific interest or SSIs around the country and they all require careful management. They may be home to some rare species or be a unique environment which is why they are important and require protection. Because of this, planning permission will only be granted in such areas when very tight protections are put in place. With this in mind, waste water monitoring and control is essential on any construction site but in areas which are in or near SSIs, this becomes even more vital. The stringent regulations are there for a reason, we all have a duty of care to our environment.
